The Top 10 Everything of 2011

What’s that you say? It’s mid-February, and I’ve managed to yet again go several weeks without posting, in addition to never finishing reviews of the last releases of 2011, and never listing my favorite movies, TV shows, actors, and actresses of 2011? Well now, that’s just rude. Of course, this “end” to my procrastination comes just in time for me to go to Italy for a week, so don’t expect this to be the beginning of a waterfall of posts… Read ahead and find out, very belatedly, what I chose as the best of 2011. I have trouble putting things in numerical order beyond a certain point, so these lists are purely alphabetical. BUT there will be a star next to my “Number One” on each list. Enjoy! If Sue Sylvester Doesn’t Get Us, the Zombies Will…: Fall TV Preview Part 2 – Returning Shows

Last night I gave you my opinion of this fall’s new shows, so, as promised, here is a preview of what’s coming up over the next several weeks with all of the shows that you already know and love! Like with the series premieres, I’m a few days off with some season premieres, so for those shows whose new seasons have already started (“Parenthood,” “Survivor”), I’ll give a brief recap and my opinion of the premiere.

Also, be sure to check back here tomorrow for the first of two special posts from Montreal Comic Con, featuring James Marsters, Vic Mignogna, Jeremy Bulloch, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, and…Stan Lee! Read the rest of this entry

Diners and Deschanels and Dinosaurs, Oh My!: Fall 2011 TV Preview Part 1 – The Newbies

September means a lot of things for entertainment fans: a return to school and the end of weekday “SVU” marathons…no more really bad Hollywood blockbusters (well, usually…looking at you, “Breaking Dawn Part 1”!!), because they’ve been replaced by Oscar bait…and, most importantly for the TV-head in all of us, fall premiere season! There’s no such thing as a universally good fall TV schedule. It’s sad, but it’s simply the truth. Sometimes fall shows that we fall in love with fail miserably – “Flash Forward,” anyone? And sometimes, shows that are quite terrible manage to find an audience, or the perfect time slot, and go on to have several seasons (I couldn’t possibly mean “According to Jim” here). The best you can do is know what you’re getting into beforehand, and avoid watching those terrible shows that are going to conflict with water cooler TV. That’s where I come in with your Fall TV Preview. It’s a bit belated, but there only been a couple of premieres this week (which I will of course comment on), so here we go with the Fall TV Preview Part 1 – New Shows! Read the rest of this entry

Every Awards Show Season Begins With an Emmy Preview! (Where’s “Parenthood?” People still watch “The Office?”)

This Sunday marks the 63rd annual airing of TV’s Emmy Awards. The Emmys are, of course, the Oscars of TV. Unless you count the Golden Globes, that is…or the SAGs…or the TV Critics Association Awards… Okay, so there are a lot of awards shows in Hollywood, but, well, I keep watching every year, so I’m certainly not going to complain!

With every awards show comes a certain amount of controversy over the list of nominees, and this year is no different. Like so many other TV and movie fiends, I’m going to take this opportunity to give my opinion of this year’s Emmy nominees: who is going to win? Who should win? Who else should have been nominated? Considering the television renaissance going on right now (don’t believe me? Turn on your TV!), there are a LOT of other potential nominees. This is also your chance to sound off – any snubs that are still bothering you the week of the ceremony? Any nominees that you’re happy are finally receiving their due? Read the rest of this entry
